Job Title: Pattern Maker

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Pattern Maker to join our team. The Pattern Maker will be responsible for creating precise and accurate patterns for garments and accessories based on design sketches, specifications, and sample garments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of garment construction, fit, and pattern grading, as well as proficiency in patternmaking software and manual pattern drafting techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Pattern Development: Interpret design sketches and specifications to develop initial pattern drafts for garments and accessories, considering factors such as fit, style, and fabric properties.
  • Pattern Drafting: Utilize patternmaking software (such as CAD) and/or manual drafting techniques to create accurate pattern pieces for each component of the garment, including bodice, sleeves, collars, cuffs, and linings.
  • Fit Evaluation: Conduct fit evaluations by creating sample garments based on initial patterns, assessing fit, proportion, and overall aesthetics, and making necessary adjustments to achieve desired results.
  • Pattern Grading: Develop size variations for each style by grading patterns up or down according to established size charts and grading rules, ensuring consistent fit across different sizes.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including pattern cards, measurement charts, and sewing instructions, to guide production teams in accurately replicating patterns during manufacturing.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with designers, technical designers, and sample makers to ensure that pattern designs align with creative vision, aesthetic goals, and production feasibility.
  • Prototype Development: Create prototypes and sample garments to test new patterns, construction techniques, and design iterations, iterating as needed to achieve desired results.
  • Quality Control: Conduct quality control checks on patterns, sample garments, and production samples to ensure accuracy, fit, and adherence to design specifications and standards.
  • Pattern Library Management: Organize and maintain a pattern library, including digital and physical pattern archives, to facilitate easy retrieval and reuse of patterns for future designs and collections.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in fashion design, patternmaking, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience as a pattern maker in the apparel industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing pattern development skills and expertise.
  • Proficiency in patternmaking software (such as Gerber Accumark, Lectra Modaris, or Optitex) and/or manual pattern drafting techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, and pattern grading principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in pattern development and evaluation.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills to address design challenges and achieve desired fit and aesthetic results.

Additional Requirements:

  • Understanding of industry standards and regulations related to garment sizing, labeling, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with draping techniques and/or 3D virtual prototyping software is a plus.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
