Job Title: Seamstress
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Seamstress to join our team. The Seamstress will be responsible for constructing, altering, repairing, and customizing garments according to client specifications and design requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong sewing skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating high-quality garments.
Responsibilities:
- Garment Construction: Utilize sewing machines, sergers, and other equipment to construct garments according to patterns, specifications, and design requirements.
- Alterations: Perform alterations and adjustments to garments to achieve proper fit and proportions, including hemming, taking in or letting out seams, and adding or removing embellishments.
- Repairs: Identify and repair damaged garments, including fixing tears, replacing zippers, reattaching buttons, and mending seams.
- Customization: Collaborate with clients to understand their preferences and requirements for custom-made garments. Take accurate measurements and translate client preferences into finished garments.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished garments for quality and accuracy, ensuring that they meet established standards and specifications.
- Pattern Making: Create or modify patterns based on design sketches or client measurements, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
- Material Selection: Assist in selecting appropriate fabrics, trims, and notions for each project, considering factors such as texture, color, and durability.
- Workplace Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sewing machines, tools, and supplies. Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and supervisors to understand project requirements, provide updates on progress, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma in garment construction or related field
- Proven experience as a seamstress or tailor, with a strong portfolio showcasing sewing skills and finished garments.
- Proficiency in operating sewing machines, sergers, and other equipment commonly used in garment construction.
- Knowledge of garment construction techniques, pattern making, and alterations.
- Attention to detail and a strong focus on quality and craftsmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Creativity and problem-solving skills to address unique design challenges and client preferences.
Additional Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal training or certification in fashion design, sewing, or related field preferred.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet project deadlines and client needs.
